An interesting day today and lots of fun in the studio shooting some fashion images fellow photographer Steven Seymour and our fantastic model Laura. This was just a test shoot for the real thing in a couple of weeks time but nevertheless we captured some great images and here’s a few of my favourites from the day.

As soon as I met Eilidh and Gareth I knew their wedding was going to be fun to shoot .. Although a pretty grey and rainy day outside, the castle provided a warm and cosy feel to the whole day and the wedding was perfect. Its so nice to see a bride enjoy every minute of her day and Eildih certainly did that !
Carbisdale castle was a perfect choice of venue for Eilidh and Gareth given that many guests travelled from abroad to be at the wedding. The castle is hired out on a weekend basis meaning that guests can arrive the day before and enjoy relaxed time with friends and family the day before. Definitely one of my favourite venues mainly because it is so unique,.. from the unusual statues which stand amongst the tables to the quirky coloured walls .
Eilidh and Gareth were a great couple to photograph, agreeing to take a little relaxed time out after the ceremony to create some images of just the two of them. The time taken out was definitely worthwhile and here’s just a small selection of some of the best images from day. Eilidh and Gareths wedding is now online so drop me an e mail if you need a password.

Just a couple of images of my niece and nephew, Eden and Lewis photographed recently when I visited them in Boston. We had heaps of fun taking the photos and I am sure Eden has some sort of career in front of the camera ahead of her !

Just catching up a little on blog posts after a busy few weeks. As promised a few more images from Angela and Gary’s wedding earlier this year at Dalhousie Castle just outside Edinburgh.
Couldn’t resist posting an image of one of the bridesmaids to start with …

and finally a shot of the Chinese lanterns being released outside the castle in the evening

A couple of weeks ago I attended a day course with Brett and Kristie Harkness in their Manchester studio called” Funky Flash ”
Learning new skills and developing old ones are an important part of my business.
Also , working in the Highlands in all weathers and all seasons means many weddings are photographed in dark and difficult lighting situations. Flash comes in very handy in these circumstances and its great to learn new technique’s . Bretts course covered off camera flash which as you can see from the results produces some very distinct imagery.

Whilst on my travels in Boston I grabbed the opportunity to visit my sister and her family who now live out in Scituate. Introducing baby Anna, the neice that I had never seen before !

Just a few favourites from the first part of my recent press trip to Boston and Iceland. My photographic experience lies mainly in shooting rural landscape images so the opportunity to photograph in a city such as Boston was a real treat . I was initially taken with the strikingly contemporary skyscrapers found primarily in the Financial District and Back Bay area.
What also intrigued me was the unique contrast of old and new buildings. The Trinity Church, built in 1873 sits immediately across from Hancock Tower, a 790 foot skyscraper

My recent trip to Boston and Iceland started off in Boston where the food was definitely one of the highlights of the trip !
A guided walk round ” Little Italy ” took us on a culinary tour of the neighbourhood by North End market Tours. We were led through the colourful neighbourhood to various shops selling Italian Speciality foods.
Polcari coffee, a charming old world store selling coffee from around the world alongside over 150 spices and 50 different extracts for baking and making liquors, provided some lovely photographic opportunities.

On to Salumeria Italiana, a delicatessen stocking the best in olive oils, vinegars, pastas and cured meats amongst other Italian specialities.

We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to dine at some of Bostons best restaurants including The Oak Room, Bond, The Langham, and Sensing restaurant at the Fairmont, Battery Wharf in the evenings.
and finally a small sample of some of the food !

I have just arrived back in Scotland after being invited on a ” Boston on Ice ” press trip by Icelandair to highlight the fact that passengers of Icelandiar can stopover in Iceland with no additional costs when flying to and from North America. On our very last evening of the trip I had the extraordinary opportunity to visit the site of the recent volcano eruption in Iceland.
Arnar Már from Iceland Rovers was our super jeep driver who took us on the nine hour round trip to view the volcano.

The conditions had been impassible on the previous couple of days and it was most definitely a journey not for the faint hearted !
We headed out and over the Myrdalsjokull Glacier late afternoon and stopped briefly to rescue another super jeep who was well and truly stuck in the snow..

It took three jeeps to pull him clear ! Continuing onwards across the galcier we arrived at the site just before the darkness closed in and I managed to get a good few shots of the volcano from about 800 metres away. More on the rest of the trip later but the volcano experience was definitely the highlight of the week.

Just on the way back from a course in Manchester this week ( more on that later ! ) and really looking forward to photographing Eilidh and Gareths wedding this Saturday at Carbisdale Castle in Sutherland.
