The recent snowfall provided some great opportunities for a bit of landscape photography …

I met with Angela and Gary a while ago to discuss their forthcoming wedding at Dalhousie castle near Edinburgh. Dalhousie is a beautiful venue with a great variety of inside and outside locations for the photography. Looking forward to the wedding in a couple of weeks which will be my first of 2010 !

The very beautiful Reisha married Scott Grupas at Balgonie Castle in fife, a venue which is truly amazing and very atmospheric. The ceremony took place in the castles own chapel which was lit only by candles. An owl delivered the rings to the couple and doves were released after the ceremony.
The meal took place in the grand hall of the castle and Wilde Thyme caters served some of the finest wedding food I have ever seen. A lovely intimate wedding where the entire wedding came over from America for the occasion.

This post is really just a goodbye to a business started almost 2 years ago in Ullapool. The Gallery, originally a coffee shop above North west Outdoors in Ullapool was converted to a photographic gallery last year. The images below show the exhibition area going up and significantly the last exhibition in place whilst still owning the Gallery ….The Uist Beachscapes I shot during the summer of 09 .
The Gallery has been successful and the past year has seen photographers such as Iain Cameron , Richard Childs and Iain Roy exhibiting in the Gallery . Angus Bruce has now taken over the Gallery whilst I concentrate full time on my wedding photography and I am looking forward to seeing many more exhibitions in the year to come.

If I had to pick a single image from 2009 that was a favourite it would have to be a photograph shot at The witchery in Edinburgh with Susan and Daniel whose wedding I had photographed the previous day. Its fairly difficult to get permission to shoot at The Witchery but it was definitely worth it ! The rooms are rich and vibrant in colour and so atmospheric. Together with a great couple who loved modelling for me it was hard not to make great images.

As a way of looking back on 2009 and originally inspired by Gwen Bell’s post here ) this post is the best trip of 2009. Gwen Bell suggested writing a series of blog posts on the best of 2009 and gave a few subjects to write on throughout December.
Now December, being December passed far too quickly and I never quite managed do this so have to decided to continue on regardless .
Definitely the best trip I took in 2009 was with a friend of mine Rhiannon Connelly to Venice, a simply amazing and inspiring city . The reason was to simply to take photographs. Having just acquired my brand new D700 at the time made it was a great opportunity to test out the new camera and its high iso capabilities. It did not disappoint … here’s a shot taken at night where it was basically pitch black apart from the highlights. The camera managed to record more than I could actually see . This was shot obviously without flash at 5000 iso , f2.8 handheld and its a pretty decent image considering. Definitely sold on the new camera !

I took a variety of images but here are two that sum up the visit to Venice

I have decided to throw in an occasional post based on a quote about photography ….. being a photographer communicating by imagery comes naturally to me whereas words are sometimes a little slower to come … Photography has always been part of my life ever since bought my first camera at the age of 17 without the knowledge of where it would eventually take me. Whether shooting landscapes or weddings, photography is my passion and creating beautiful imagery my motivation. I will be posting a series of quotes accompanied by one of my own photos chosen simply because it I like them . Here’s the first
” I take photographs with love, so I try to make them art objects. But I make them for myself first and foremost – that is important ”
Jacques- Henri Lartique

I recently went back to Achnagairn House with Averil, who’s wedding I photographed last summer. So far the wedding has been featured in No.1 for weddings magazine as well as a front cover in the press and Journals wedding magazine. Hardly surprising really given that Averil made such a stunning bride and chose an amazing dress for her wedding day. I recently blogged some of the veil shots I did on this shoot but there’s plenty more. If you are looking for a really unique and atmospheric venue for your wedding Achnagairn House is definitely worth considering .. definitely my favourite local venue.

The day after Susie and Donalds wedding I had the luxury of spending the day at various locations in Caithness with Susie. The area gave us a variety of unusual and creative backdrops for the images which made up the day after shoot. Luckily the weather was also on our side and Susie made a great model
